Liparische Inseln: Salina
Salina liegt nordwestlich der Hauptinsel Lipari und ist die zweitgrößte der Äolischen Inseln. Auch hier befinden sich zwei erloschene Vulkane: der Monte dei Porri (860 m) und der Monte Fossa delle Felci (960 m), den wir auf dieser Tagestour bestiegen haben. Der Name Salina bedeutet 'salzhaltig' und stammt aus der Zeit der römischen Herrschaft, als sich im Südosten der Insel große Salzseen befanden. Seit 1983 steht der größte Teil der Insel unter Naturschutz und der Tourismus ist eine ihrer größten Einnahmequellen.
Salina lies north-west of Lipari and is the second largest of the Aeolian Islands. Like Lipari there are two extincted volcanoes on the island: Monte dei Porri (860 m) and Monte Fossa delle Felci (960 m), the latter we climbed on our daytrip. The name 'Salina' means salty and was created in the days of the Roman Emperors when large salt-lakes were situated in the south-eastern part of the island. Since 1983 the biggest part of the island is environmentally protected and tourism is one of the greatest sources of income.
