Alpenglow in the valley of Tiers. The Vajolett Towers in the center are a well known climbing area.
Etwa 400 m oberhalb von Tiers, auf dem Wunleger (1402m) hat man einen prächtigen Blick auf das Rosengarten Massiv.

Approximately 400 m above the village of Tiers at a place called Wunleger (1402 m) one has an excellent view of the Rosengarten Range.

Der Blick auf Rosengarten und Latemar rentiert sich beim (fast) jedem Wetter.

The view of Rosengarten and Latemar is worthwhile in (nearly) any weather condition.

Auf dem Nigerpass zwischen Tierser Tal und Karerpass wird zum ersten Mal der Blick frei auf Schwarz- und Weisshorn, Brenta, Ortler und die Ötztaler Alpen.

Niger Pass between the valley of Tiers and the Karer Pass is the first place get an overview starting to the left with Schwarzhorn and Weisshorn and continuing to the Brenta- Ortler- and Ötztal Range.

Niger Pass: Das Latemar Massiv mit der Latemar Spitze (2791 m), den östlichen (2842 m) und westlichen (2777 m) Latemartürmen und rechts hinten dem Eggentaler Horn (2799 m).

At the Niger Pass: The Latemar Range with Latemar Peak (2791 m), the eastern (2842 m) and western (2777 m) Latemar Towers and finally to the right Eggentaler Horn (2799 m).
Weisshorn (2313 m)

Der Passo di Lavaze nördlich von Cavalese bildet den Übergang zwischen Eggental und Val di Fiemme. Hier zweigt eine asphaltierte Strasse zum Joch Grimm (1988 m) ab, das sich genau zwischen Schwarzhorn (2439 m) und Weisshorn (2313 m) befindet. Beide Gipfel sind leicht erreichbar, beide bieten ein sehenswertes Panorama, wobei es auf dem Schwarzhorn etwas ruhiger zugeht.

The Lavaze Pass north of Cavalese connects the Eggental Valley and Val di Fiemme. On top of the pass an asphalted road turns off towards another pass: Joch Grimm (1988 m). Situated between Schwarzhorn (2439 m) and Weisshorn (2313 m) this is the starting point for the one hours walk to either of these summits. Both peaks show an excellent panorama whereas the summit of Schwarzhorn seems to be a little less crowded.

Palagruppe

Eigentlich war der Passo di Lusia südöstlich von Moena im Val di Fiemme unser Ziel. Nach den ersten paar hundert Metern entschieden wir uns allerdings für eine Rundfahrt zu den Pale di San Martino die zuerst nach Osten zum San Pellegrino Pass und danach über Valles- und Rolle Pass wieder zurück nach Moena führte.

Originally we had the idea of driving up to the Lusia Pass (2055 m) south-east of Moena in Val di Fiemme. It was not until after some hundred meters on the pass road that we decided to 'call it a pass'. Instead we drove east across the San Pellegrino Pass and via Valles- and Rolle Pass back to Moena.


Auf dem San Pellegrino Pass dominiert die Civetta das Panorama. Von den Pale ist noch nichts zu sehen.

On top of the San Pellegrino Pass Civetta is dominating the panorama. The Pale Group is not visible yet.

Am Valles Pass (2031 m) lag noch Schnee, bedingt durch die Kaltfont, die zwei Tage zuvor durchgezogen war. Im Hintergrund sieht man Monte Pelmo und Civetta, während rechts die nördlichen Ausläufer der Pale di San Martino hervorragen.

On top of Valles Pass (2031 m) we still found some snow due to the cold front that had passed two days before. In the background Monte Pelmo and Civetta are visible, to the right the northern peaks of the Pale di San Martino Range are coming out from behind.


Rolle Pass (1980 m): Ein besonders mit Neuschnee beeindruckender Blick auf die Pale di San Martino mit ihren höchsten Gipfeln Cima di Focobon (3054 m), Cima dei Burelon (3130 m), Cima della Vezzana (3192 m) und dem Cimon della Pala (3184 m).

Rolle Pass (1980 m): A Patagonia-like view of the snow covered Pale di San Martino Range and its highest summits Cima di Focobon (3054 m), Cima dei Burelon (3130 m), Cima della Vezzana (3192 m) and Cimon della Pala (3184 m).

Südlich der Passhöhe geht der Blick noch weiter bis zum Sass Maor (2814 m), dem südlichen Ende der Pala.

Beyond the of the top of the pass the view extends until to Sass Maor (2814 m), the southmost end of the Pala Range.
Sass Pordoi
Ein Panoramaplatz der Sonderklasse ist sicherlich der Gipfel des Piz Boe (3152 m) zwischen Pordoi- und Grödner Joch. Dafür lag allerdings noch zuviel Schnee und so begnügten wir uns mit einem kurzen Abstecher zum Sass Pordoi. Auch hier ist das Panorama - vor allem bei schneebedeckten Bergen - eindrucksvoll.

A very special place for panoramas is definitely the summit of Piz Boe (3152 m) high above the Pordoi Pass. As there still a lot of snow we only went up to Sass Pordoi where we got a faint idea of how the Boe panorama could be.

Der erste Blick geht nach Westen, von Adamello und Presanella über das Ortlergebiet und die Ötztaler Alpen rechts vom Langkofel.

The first photo was taken in western direction starting at Adamello and Presanella and continuing with the Ortler Range up to the Ötztal Alps right of the rock summit of Langkofel.

Nach Süden dominiert die Marmolada, an die sich rechts die Pala anschliesst. Etwa in Bildmitte erkennt man Latemar und Rosengarten, dahinter wie gehabt Adamello, Presanella...

In southern direction Marmolada is dominating which is followed by the Pala Group. In the center of the picture Latemar and Rosengarten can be figured out. Behind as already mentioned Adamello, Presanella....
Auch nach Osten eine eindrucksvolle Kulisse mit Sorapis, Antelao und Monte Pelmo. Ganz im Hintergrund die Nadel des Duranno in den Friauler Dolomiten, daneben rechts der wuchtige Felsklotz der Civetta.

Also to the east we found an impressive scenery with Sorapis, Antelao and Monte Pelmo. The needle right of Monte Pelmo is Duranno which already belongs to the Friaulian Dolomites, right of it the massive rock face of Civetta.
Fedaja Pass
Am Fedajasee unterhalb des Marmolada Gipfels ist das Panorama weit weniger spektakulär da der Gipfel durch die Perspektive stark nach hinten geneigt scheint. Fotogener ist hier der Gran Vernel.

The panorama at Fedaja Lake below the summit of Marmolada is much less spectacular as the summit seems to be laid back due to perspective reasons. Its neighbour Gran Vernel is much more photogenic.

Auf dem Weg zur Passhöhe bietet der Gran Vernel einen imposanten Anblick.

Am Fedajasee deutet wenig darauf hin, dass man unter dem höchsten Gipfel der Dolomiten steht.

At the Fedaja Lake not much is indicating that we're below the highest peak of the Dolomites.
Villnösstal und Seiser Alm
Eines der schönsten Dolomitentäler ist sicherlich das Villnösstal südlich von Brixen mit Blick auf die Geissler Gruppe mit Sass Rigais, Furchetta und den Fermeda Türmen. Etwas weiter südlich liegt der Naturpark Schlern zu dem auch das Gebiet der Seiser Alm gehört.

One of the most beautiful valleys in the Dolomites is the valley of Villnöss south of Brixen with an excellent view of the Geissler Group including Sass Rigais, Furchetta and the Fermeda Towers. Further south the Natural Park of Schlern is situtuated which also includes the Seiser Alm area.
Die Berge rund ums Villnösstal. Der Standort liegt auf etwa 2000 m Höhe unterhalb des Monte Telegrafo. Links der Peitlerkofel (2875 m), in der Bildmitte die Geisslerspitzen mit Furchetta, Sass Rigais und Fermeda und schliesslich Langkofel und Schlern im Hintergrund.

Mit leichtem Weitwinkel (Brennweite: 40mm) wird die Weite des Seiser Alm Gebiets noch deutlicher.

With the use of a slight wide angle lens (focal length: 40 mm) the extent of the Seiser Alm area becomes even more apparent.
