Petriti

Petriti, the biggest fishing port on the island is a quiet and relaxing place on Corfu's east coast about 15 km south of Messonghi. As there are no large hotel complexes it is not part of the usual travel catalogues and therefore of particular interest for individual travellers as well as a worthwhile destination for daytrips, even if it is only to enjoy the fresh fish in one of the taverns at the port.

Petriti lies just a few miles east of the main road from Corfu to Kavos. Another worthwhile approach is taking the coast road from Messonghi and Petriti with quite a few places to take a stop and enjoy the panorama including a large part of the east coast and some of the highest mountains like Prasoudi (468 m - left), Agios Deka (576 m - center in the background) with its radar station on top and finally Pantokrator (911 m), the top of Corfu.

Long sandy beaches and large hotel complexes are rare in this part of the east-coast. Instead you'll find small pebbled beaches with a pleasant and calm atmosphere and a panorama spanning from the northern part of Corfu along the mountain coast of Albania and the Greek mainland up to the mountains south of Igoumenitsa.
